The figure represents a Mexican line infantryman during the assault ordered by General Antonio López de Santa Anna against the Alamo mission. On the morning of 6 March 1836, Mexican columns advanced in darkness toward the fortified mission, using disciplined infantry formations supported by drums, officers, and standards to maintain cohesion under fire.

The bayonet charge was a critical part of early 19th-century infantry tactics. Smoothbore muskets were slow to reload, so soldiers often relied on closing with the enemy after firing a volley. The "high port" carry shown on RTA133 allowed troops to advance quickly while keeping the bayonet ready for close combat.
