SGEN-02 - Major General Benedict Arnold | John Jenkins Designs

This mounted figure represents Major General Benedict Arnold of the Continental Army during the Battle of Saratoga in 1777, one of the most important campaigns of the American War of Independence.

Although Benedict Arnold later became infamous for his defection to the British, he was previously one of the Continental Army's most capable and aggressive battlefield commanders.

During the Saratoga Campaign, American forces confronted the British army commanded by General John Burgoyne as it advanced south from Canada.

On 7 October 1777, Arnold played a prominent role in the fighting at Bemis Heights, including the assault against the Breymann Redoubt, which was defended by Brunswick grenadiers serving with the British army.

Arnold personally led troops during the attack, helping drive the defenders from their fortified position.

The capture of the redoubt made the British defensive line untenable and contributed to Burgoyne's decision to withdraw.

Arnold was seriously wounded in the leg during the fighting, and the American victory ultimately resulted in the surrender of Burgoyne's army on 17 October 1777.

The success at Saratoga was a major turning point in the Revolutionary War and helped persuade France to formally enter the conflict on the American side.

SGEN-02 depicts Benedict Arnold mounted and provides an important historical command figure for collectors recreating the Battle of Saratoga.

The figure can be displayed alongside American Continental infantry, riflemen, artillery and the Brunswick grenadiers defending the Breymann Redoubt.
