SNH-08 - Two Infantrymen, 2nd New Hampshire Regiment | John Jenkins Designs
This two-figure set represents infantrymen of the 2nd New Hampshire Regiment, Continental Army, during the Battle of Saratoga in 1777.
The regiment was originally formed in May 1775 as one of three Continental Army regiments raised by New Hampshire following the outbreak of the American War of Independence.
Its first commander was Colonel Enoch Poor, with Joseph Cilley serving as major. Many of the regiment's soldiers came from southeastern New Hampshire and western Maine, which was then part of Massachusetts.
Following Enoch Poor's promotion to brigadier general, Nathan Hale became colonel of the regiment in April 1777.
During the summer of 1777, the regiment participated in operations against the British forces advancing south from Canada under General John Burgoyne.
Although the regiment lost important military colours during the retreat from Fort Ticonderoga, its soldiers continued to serve and participated in the fighting at Saratoga later that year.
The American victory at Saratoga resulted in the surrender of Burgoyne's army and became a major turning point in the Revolutionary War.
SNH-08 provides two Continental infantrymen suitable for building a larger 2nd New Hampshire Regiment formation.
The set can be displayed alongside SNH-07 and other New Hampshire infantry and command figures to recreate the Continental forces of the Saratoga Campaign.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
