SQR-11 - Mounted Hussar, Simcoe's Rangers | John Jenkins Designs
This individual mounted figure depicts a Hussar of the Queen's Rangers, commonly known as Simcoe's Rangers, during the American War of Independence.
The Hussar is depicted looking forward, representing one of the mounted troops serving within this specialised Loyalist military formation.
The Queen's Rangers were originally raised in 1776 and became closely associated with Major John Graves Simcoe following his appointment as commanding officer in October 1777.
Under Simcoe, the regiment developed into a highly mobile force incorporating several branches of military service.
Alongside its infantry companies, the Rangers included Highlanders, grenadiers, riflemen, dragoons, Hussars and light artillery.
The mounted elements were particularly valuable for reconnaissance, patrols, rapid movement and supporting the operations of the infantry.
Simcoe emphasised constant vigilance, endurance, marksmanship and practical battlefield training, helping establish the Rangers as a capable Loyalist formation.
SQR-11 offers collectors a distinctive mounted Hussar suitable for representing the cavalry element of the Queen's Rangers.
The figure complements SQR-12 and can be displayed alongside other Simcoe's Rangers releases to recreate a mixed Loyalist military formation during the Revolution.
