SQR-12 - Mounted Hussar, Simcoe's Rangers | John Jenkins Designs
This mounted figure represents a Hussar serving with the Queen's Rangers, also known as Simcoe's Rangers, during the American War of Independence.
The figure depicts a mounted Hussar turned towards the right, providing a distinctive pose for a Loyalist cavalry formation.
The Queen's Rangers were originally established as a provincial infantry corps in 1776 and subsequently developed into a versatile military formation under Major John Graves Simcoe.
Simcoe assumed command in October 1777 and introduced extensive training and organisational improvements.
As the regiment expanded, it incorporated several specialised elements, including infantry, Highlanders, riflemen, grenadiers, dragoons, Hussars and light artillery.
Hussars were a form of light cavalry traditionally associated with rapid movement, reconnaissance, mounted patrols and the pursuit of enemy troops.
Their role complemented the Rangers' emphasis on mobility and the ability to operate independently during military campaigns.
SQR-12 provides a mounted cavalry figure suitable for representing the Hussar element of Simcoe's Rangers.
It can be displayed alongside SQR-11 and the other Queen's Rangers figures to create a more complete representation of the regiment's mounted and foot soldiers.
