SS196B – Two Running Gebirgsjäger (Snow-Covered Base) | Thomas Gunn
For collectors building a winter battlefield, SS196B takes the same energetic Gebirgsjäger team and places them on snow-covered bases.
The two mountain soldiers are moving rapidly towards a new position, one carrying an MG42 and the second transporting spare ammunition for the weapon.
The snow changes the character of the set considerably. It immediately lends itself to a winter mountain scene or an Eastern Front collection, where harsh weather became an enemy in its own right.
Rather than positioning the pair on level ground, they would look particularly effective moving across an incline, between rocks or towards a prepared machine-gun position. Other winter Gebirgsjäger can then be arranged ahead of them as though the unit is shifting its firepower to a threatened section of the line.
The relationship between the two figures is what makes this set especially convincing: the MG42 gunner provides the weapon, but sustained fire depends upon the ammunition carried by his companion.
