Throughout World War II, German Waffen-SS infantry served in a wide variety of combat environments, from the open countryside of France to the villages and forests of Eastern Europe.

During warmer campaigns, soldiers wore lighter field clothing that allowed greater freedom of movement, although combat equipment and personal weapons remained essential to their battlefield role.
