SSB-29 – Cheyenne Inverted | John Jenkins Designs

SSB-29 represents a warrior of the Cheyenne Inverted or Bow String Society, one of the distinctive warrior societies represented in John Jenkins Designs’ Thunder on the Plains range.

Members of this society followed traditions of reversed or “contrary” behaviour and were expected to act together as a united body during war.

On the battlefield they might launch their own group attack, often against an enemy flank. If other warriors began to withdraw, members of the Inverted Society were expected to respond aggressively and continue the fight.

Their distinctive regalia included the Thunder Bow Lance, a stuffed owl worn as a mark of membership and a bone whistle suspended around the neck.

SSB-29 is a particularly colourful and unusual addition to a Cheyenne warrior display and helps represent the diversity of the Plains warrior societies.
