SW015 – ‘Western Army Ashigaru Kneeling Spearman’

At the Battle of Sekigahara on 21 October 1600, tens of thousands of warriors confronted one another in the struggle that would determine the political future of Japan.

SW015 – Western Army Ashigaru Kneeling Spearman represents one of the ordinary foot soldiers serving the coalition opposed to Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Ashigaru had evolved from relatively humble foot troops into an increasingly important component of Japanese armies during the Sengoku period. By the late 16th century they could be organised into substantial formations armed with spears, bows and matchlock firearms.

The kneeling spearman makes an excellent defensive or supporting figure. Place several around a standard, on uneven terrain or immediately behind a more exposed forward line.

In a Sekigahara display, the Western Army figures can be opposed by King & Country's Eastern Army releases, allowing collectors to build the two rival forces with clearly differentiated troops.
