SW020 – ‘Samurai Date Masamune’

Known to history as the “One-Eyed Dragon of ?shu,” Date Masamune was one of the most famous daimyo of Japan's late Sengoku and early Edo periods.

Born in 1567, Masamune became a powerful regional lord in northeastern Japan. His distinctive appearance, formidable reputation and political skill have made him one of the most recognisable samurai personalities of the era.

SW020 – Samurai Date Masamune gives collectors a named historical figure rather than another anonymous warrior. His famous crescent-moon helmet makes representations of Masamune particularly striking within a samurai display.

Masamune ultimately aligned himself with Tokugawa Ieyasu, navigating the dangerous politics surrounding the unification of Japan and retaining considerable power under the new Tokugawa order.

His interests also extended beyond warfare. Masamune encouraged trade and famously supported the Keich? Embassy, which travelled across the Pacific and onwards to Europe in the early 17th century.

The Military Workshop is pleased to offer this impressive King & Country portrayal of Date Masamune – a natural centrepiece for any collection devoted to the great personalities of samurai Japan.
