SW026 – ‘Maeda Toshiie’
Maeda Toshiie lived through the turbulent decades in which Japan moved from prolonged civil warfare towards political unification.
Born in 1538, Toshiie became associated with Oda Nobunaga and developed a reputation as a warrior before later becoming one of the leading daimyo under Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
His career therefore crossed the world of the Sengoku battlefield and the increasingly complex politics of Japan's unification. After Hideyoshi's death in 1598, Toshiie was one of the senior figures intended to help govern until the young Toyotomi heir came of age.
Toshiie's death in 1599 removed an important political counterweight shortly before the struggle that culminated at Sekigahara.
SW026 – Maeda Toshiie is an excellent personality figure for collectors interested in the men whose careers linked Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and the rise of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
