SW027 – ‘Samurai Ronin’
A r?nin was a samurai without a lord – a warrior whose master had died, been defeated or lost his position, leaving the retainer without the traditional relationship that defined much of samurai service.
SW027 – Samurai Ronin explores this particularly evocative figure from Japanese history.
During the upheavals of the Sengoku period, political fortunes could change with extraordinary speed. Clans rose and fell, castles changed hands and warriors could find themselves displaced when their lord was killed or dispossessed.
Some r?nin sought new service, while others became mercenaries, wanderers or found different ways to survive. Their circumstances varied considerably, making the r?nin more complex than the romantic lone swordsman of later popular culture.
That versatility also makes SW027 useful in miniature. He can stand apart from a formal army, inhabit a village or roadside scene, or appear as an independent warrior within a larger display.
Available through The Military Workshop – a characterful King & Country Samurai Ronin representing one of the most enduring and intriguing figures of Japan's warrior tradition.
