SW039 – ‘Ashigaru Arquebusier Kneeling & Aiming’ – Eastern Army
The introduction of the matchlock arquebus to Japan in the 16th century had a profound impact on Japanese warfare.
Japanese gunsmiths rapidly began producing their own versions of the weapon, commonly known as the tanegashima, and daimyo increasingly incorporated firearms into their armies.
SW039 – Eastern Army Ashigaru Arquebusier Kneeling & Aiming represents one of these gun-armed foot soldiers.
By Sekigahara, firearms were no longer an exotic novelty. Matchlock troops could deliver organised fire as part of armies that also contained archers, spearmen and heavily armed samurai.
The kneeling pose is ideal for the front of a firearm unit. Standing arquebusiers can be positioned behind, while loading figures show the process required to keep weapons firing.
Available from The Military Workshop, SW039 is a particularly useful King & Country figure for recreating the increasingly gunpowder-dominated battlefields of late Sengoku Japan.
