SW043 – ‘Ashigaru Arquebusier Loading His Weapon’ – Eastern Army
The dramatic moment of firing lasted only an instant. Much of an arquebusier's battlefield routine was devoted to preparing the weapon for the next shot.
SW043 – Ashigaru Arquebusier Loading His Weapon captures this essential part of matchlock warfare.
Loading involved a sequence of actions: powder and projectile had to be prepared and placed into the barrel, the weapon readied and the match kept usable before another shot could be fired. Training and organisation were therefore important if groups of arquebusiers were to maintain an effective rate of fire.
This loading pose becomes particularly convincing when mixed with SW039 aiming, SW041 on guard and SW045 advancing and firing. Together the figures can suggest several men at different stages of the firing cycle.
The result is far more natural than a line in which every arquebus discharges simultaneously.
The Military Workshop is pleased to offer SW043, an excellent King & Country supporting pose that adds genuine working detail to an Eastern Army firearm formation.
