SW047 – ‘Eastern Army Ashigaru Kneeling Spearman’

SW047 provides the opposing counterpart – an Eastern Army Ashigaru Kneeling Spearman representing the coalition led by Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Sekigahara brought together rival daimyo and their retainers following the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Ieyasu's victory ultimately paved the way for his appointment as shogun in 1603 and the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate.

The battle was not fought by samurai heroes alone. Large numbers of Ashigaru formed the practical fighting strength of the armies, using long spears, bows and increasingly important matchlock firearms.

The kneeling pose gives SW047 a strong defensive appearance. Combine him with standing and advancing Eastern Army troops to create a formation with several levels rather than a uniform row.

Available through The Military Workshop, SW047 is an excellent King & Country army-building figure for expanding Tokugawa's forces at one of the decisive battles in Japanese history.
