SX-37 – Housecarl with Banner Charging
The Housecarls were the professional warrior elite of Anglo-Saxon England, serving kings and powerful nobles as loyal retainers and experienced fighting men. On the battlefield they were expected to stand at the centre of the hardest fighting and provide a disciplined core around which other troops could rally.
SX-37 – Housecarl with Banner Charging captures one of these elite warriors surging forward while carrying a banner. Standards were important symbols of identity and leadership, making their presence on the battlefield both practical and inspirational to the men fighting around them.
The charging pose gives this figure considerable movement, making him particularly effective at the head of an advancing group of Housecarls and Fyrdmen rather than in a static shield wall.
Available from The Military Workshop – a striking John Jenkins figure combining the elite Saxon Housecarl with the visual impact of a battlefield banner.
