Loyalty was central to the relationship between an Anglo-Saxon lord and his Housecarls. These professional warriors received support and rewards from their leader and, in return, were expected to fight alongside him and protect him on the battlefield.

SX-65B – Housecarls depicts members of this warrior elite prepared for the close-quarter fighting in which their experience and heavy weaponry could be put to greatest use.
