SX-68B – Saxon Archers
Although the Saxon shield wall is one of the most familiar images of Anglo-Saxon warfare, bows also had a place on the battlefield. Archers could engage an approaching enemy before the main formations met, adding valuable missile support to the warriors armed with spears, swords and axes.
SX-68B – Saxon Archers represents bowmen supporting a larger Saxon force. Their role provides an interesting tactical contrast to the heavily equipped Housecarls who would be expected to bear the brunt of close-quarter fighting.
Combined with the other SX archer variations, these figures can create a loose firing line positioned ahead of, behind or on the flanks of the main Saxon formation.
Available from The Military Workshop – an excellent John Jenkins set for adding ranged support and greater variety to a Saxon battlefield display.
