TH-12B – Thracian Peltast

The Thracian peltast became one of the most recognisable light infantry types of the ancient Greek world. The name derives from the pelta, the relatively light shield traditionally associated with these mobile warriors.

Rather than standing in the dense ranks of a heavy hoplite formation, peltasts relied upon speed and manoeuvrability. Armed with javelins, they could harass heavier infantry, exploit difficult terrain and withdraw before becoming trapped in prolonged close combat.

TH-12B – Thracian Peltast represents one of these agile warriors and provides an excellent contrast to heavily armoured infantry and cavalry within an ancient battlefield display.

Available through The Military Workshop – a versatile John Jenkins figure depicting the famous Thracian light infantry whose style of warfare became an important feature of ancient Mediterranean armies.
