TROY-02 – The Scaean Gateway

The Scaean Gates are among the most famous locations mentioned in Homer’s Iliad. They formed the principal gateway through Troy’s great defensive walls and became the setting for several important moments in the legendary story.

Near these gates, King Priam and the Trojan elders watched the Greek army from the walls, while Hector passed through them as he travelled between the battlefield and the city. The area around the gateway was therefore closely connected with both the military defence of Troy and the personal stories of its heroes.
