Among the clashing shields and thrusting spears of the Trojan battlefield, the archer occupied a very different but equally valuable role.

Rather than meeting his opponent face-to-face, the bowman could attack from a distance, weakening or disrupting the enemy before the main lines collided.

Archers could support advancing warriors, target exposed enemies and maintain pressure on Greek formations while operating behind the protection of the main Trojan battle line. Their presence reminds us that the armies of the Trojan War depended upon warriors performing many different battlefield roles.
