The legendary Amazons were unlike almost any other warriors described in Greek mythology. Fiercely independent and renowned for their skill in battle, these female warriors challenged the traditional Greek idea of what a warrior society should look like.
Among the Amazons represented in the Trojan War series is Androdaixa, portrayed as one of these formidable fighters.
Stories of the Amazons extended far beyond Troy. Ancient traditions associated them with Asia Minor, Thrace and the lands surrounding the Black Sea, while legendary heroes including Heracles and Theseus were said to have encountered them during their adventures.
Their place in the Trojan story centres upon Queen Penthesilea, who came to Troy with her Amazon warriors after the death of Hector. Her arrival offered the beleaguered Trojans another powerful ally, but her intervention would end tragically when she faced Achilles on the battlefield.
