TWTLK-02N – Lycian Warriors
When the great armies of Greece gathered before Troy, King Priam was not left to face them with Trojan warriors alone. From across Anatolia came allied contingents determined to defend the city, and among the most celebrated were the Lycians, warriors from the rugged lands of south-western Anatolia.
In Homer’s Iliad, the Lycians are led by the great warriors Sarpedon and Glaucus. Sarpedon was no ordinary commander. Described as a son of Zeus, he was portrayed as a courageous leader who believed that those who enjoyed the greatest privileges in times of peace should also be prepared to stand at the very front in times of war.
Sarpedon proved those words on the battlefield. During the assault on the Greek defensive wall, he led his Lycians forward and succeeded in tearing down part of the battlements, helping open the way for the Trojan attack. His eventual confrontation with Patroclus would become one of the most dramatic episodes of the Iliad.
TWTLK-02N brings together four Lycian warriors, creating an impressive fighting group representing some of Troy’s most formidable allies.

The great city of Troy did not stand against the Greeks alone. In Homer’s Iliad, King Priam could call upon numerous allied peoples from across Anatolia and beyond, and among the most highly regarded were the Lycians, who came from the mountainous coastal region of south-western Anatolia in what is now modern Turkey.
The Lycian contingent was led by the celebrated warriors Sarpedon and Glaucus. Sarpedon, described in mythology as a son of Zeus, was one of Troy’s most important allies and played a prominent role in the fighting. The Lycians were far from their homeland, yet Homer portrays them as determined warriors prepared to honour their alliance with Troy regardless of the cost.
Sarpedon himself led the Lycians during the attack on the Greek defensive wall and succeeded in tearing down part of the battlements, helping create the opportunity for Hector and the Trojans to break through the Greek defences. His eventual death at the hands of Patroclus led to a savage struggle over his body.
