TWTLK-03 – Lycian Warriors

From their homeland along the Mediterranean coast of south-western Anatolia, the Lycians travelled north to join King Priam’s struggle against the invading Greeks.

Their presence at Troy demonstrates the scale of the conflict described by Homer. This was not simply a battle between Greeks and the inhabitants of one city, but a legendary war that drew kings, heroes and warriors from across the ancient Aegean and Anatolian worlds.

At the head of the Lycians stood Sarpedon and Glaucus, two commanders who would earn a prominent place in the Iliad. Sarpedon repeatedly led his men into the hardest fighting and expected his fellow nobles to share the dangers faced by the warriors under their command.

During the great assault upon the Greek fortifications, the Lycians were among the troops at the forefront of the attack, forcing some of the greatest Greek warriors to respond to their advance.

TWTLK-03 presents two of these Lycian warriors ready for battle. The Military Workshop is pleased to offer this striking pair for collectors looking to strengthen their Lycian contingent or add another fighting element to the diverse army gathered in defence of Troy.

Among the many allies who answered Troy’s call for assistance were the warriors of Lycia, a rugged region of south-western Anatolia stretching from the Mediterranean coastline towards the Taurus Mountains.

According to Homer, the Lycians fought under Sarpedon and Glaucus, two of the most respected allied commanders in the Trojan army. Sarpedon in particular is portrayed as a warrior who believed that rank and privilege carried an obligation to lead from the front.

During the fierce assault on the Greek fortifications, Sarpedon and his Lycians were at the forefront of the fighting. Their attack was serious enough to draw the attention of Greek heroes Ajax and Teucer away from Hector’s own advance.

TWTLK-03 features two Lycian warriors ready for battle, bringing another distinctive element to the diverse forces gathered in defence of Troy.

For collectors building the armies of the Trojan War, The Military Workshop is pleased to offer TWTLK-03 through our website as an excellent addition to a Lycian contingent or larger Trojan battle scene.
