TWTLK-05 – Lycian Warriors

The warriors of ancient Lycia came from a distinctive region along the Mediterranean coast of Anatolia, far from the walls of Troy. Yet in Homer’s legendary account of the Trojan War, they became some of King Priam’s most dependable allies.

Their most famous leader was Sarpedon, a son of Zeus and a warrior whose courage earned him considerable respect from friend and enemy alike. Alongside Glaucus, Sarpedon led his Lycian troops into some of the hardest fighting described in the Iliad.

The Lycians were not fighting for their own homeland. They had travelled to honour their alliance with Troy, bringing them into direct confrontation with some of the greatest heroes of the Greek army.

Their presence helps illustrate the enormous scale Homer gave to the conflict, drawing together peoples and legendary warriors from across the ancient Aegean and Anatolian worlds.

TWTLK-05 features two Lycian warriors ideal for adding further depth to an existing formation or beginning a new contingent of Troy’s famous allies. Available from The Military Workshop, this pair makes a striking addition to a collection devoted to the heroes and armies of the Trojan War.
