TX-08 – Tlaxcaltec Warriors

When Cortés entered Tlaxcalan territory in 1519, his expedition initially encountered fierce resistance. After several confrontations, however, the former enemies became allies, united largely by their opposition to the power of the Aztec Empire.

TX-08 – Tlaxcaltec Warriors adds another group of these important Mesoamerican fighters to the collection. Their presence helps illustrate that the Spanish conquest depended heavily upon Indigenous alliances and rivalries that already existed long before the arrival of Europeans.
