The Battle of Brandy Station, fought on 9 June 1863, developed into the largest predominantly cavalry engagement of the American Civil War and became an important test of the rapidly improving Union mounted arm.

Thousands of Union and Confederate cavalrymen fought across the Virginia countryside as the Army of the Potomac’s Cavalry Corps crossed the Rappahannock and attempted to strike the Confederate mounted forces gathered around Culpeper.

USBS-28N2 – 4 Union Cavalry brings four mounted Union soldiers together in one substantial grouping, making it ideal for recreating the scale and movement of this sprawling battle. Cavalry actions could quickly become confused and violent, with sabres, pistols and carbines all playing a role as opposing riders manoeuvred, charged and fought at close quarters.

A four-rider group immediately gives a display greater momentum than a single cavalryman. The figures can be positioned as a charging squadron, troops moving into the fight or part of a larger mounted melee when combined with the other USBS-28 releases.
