During the War of 1812, American infantry formations relied upon men who could perform practical engineering and pioneer duties in addition to the normal responsibilities of a soldier.

USCH-07 – Scott’s Brigade, Pioneer Corporal represents one of these specialist soldiers within Scott’s Brigade. Pioneer troops could assist with clearing obstacles, preparing routes and undertaking the physical tasks necessary to keep an army moving and functioning in the field.

The distinctive role and equipment of the pioneer make this figure an interesting contrast to conventional infantrymen and add another layer of detail to a larger American formation.
