Freydis Eiriksdottir is one of the most fascinating women associated with the Viking exploration of North America. The daughter of Erik the Red and sister or half-sister of Leif Erikson, she appears prominently in the Norse sagas describing voyages to Vinland.

The surviving saga accounts differ considerably in their portrayal of Freydis, but both present her as an exceptionally strong and determined personality. One famous tradition describes her confronting danger in Vinland when others around her were retreating.
