VMRR-02R – Velites with Red Shield

Before Rome’s heavily armed infantry entered close combat, the battlefield belonged to the Velites. These agile skirmishers moved ahead of the legion, using their javelins to harass the enemy and disrupt its advance.

VMRR-02R – Velites with Red Shield represents another of these lightly equipped Roman warriors. His red shield creates a strong visual connection with the other VMRR red-shield releases, allowing collectors to build a coordinated skirmishing force.

Combined with additional Velites and the heavier Roman infantry positioned behind them, this figure helps illustrate how the different elements of the Republican legion worked together.
