WB79-02 - Standard Bearer, 79th (Draper's) Regiment of Foot | John Jenkins Designs
WB79-02 portrays a standard bearer of the British 79th (Draper's) Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Wandewash in January 1760.
The 79th Regiment served in India during the Seven Years War and was among the British regular units involved in the campaigns against French forces in southern India.
Originally raised in 1757, the regiment was commanded by Major Brereton and saw much of its active service in India before being disbanded in 1764.
Regimental colours were an important symbol of military identity during the eighteenth century. Carried by designated soldiers, they were closely associated with a regiment's honour and tradition.
This standard bearer provides an important element for collectors assembling a representation of the 79th Regiment.
It can be displayed alongside the Officer (WB79-01), the alternative Standard Bearer (WB79-03) and Drummer (WB79-04) to create a regimental command group.
Additional infantry releases allow the formation to be expanded into a larger British battlefield display.
