WB79-04 - Drummer, 79th (Draper's) Regiment of Foot | John Jenkins Designs

WB79-04 represents a drummer serving with the British 79th (Draper's) Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Wandewash in January 1760.

The 79th Regiment was raised in November 1757 and served in India during the Third Carnatic War. Under Major Brereton, the regiment participated in the British campaigns against French forces in southern India.

Military drummers played an important part in eighteenth-century regimental organisation. Their instruments were used to communicate commands, regulate marching and support the daily routines of military service.

This drummer figure adds an important regimental role to the 79th Regiment collection, complementing its officers, standard bearers and ordinary infantrymen.

WB79-04 can be displayed with WB79-01, WB79-02 and WB79-03 to assemble a group representing the regiment's command and musical personnel.

When combined with the associated line infantry releases, these figures allow collectors to build a more substantial British formation suitable for historical displays of the Seven Years War in India.
