WB84-04 - Drummer, 84th (Coote's) Regiment of Foot | John Jenkins Designs
This figure represents a drummer serving with the British 84th (Coote's) Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Wandewash in January 1760.
Military drummers performed an important role in eighteenth-century armies. Drumbeats were used to communicate orders, regulate marching movements and assist in maintaining military discipline during camp duties and battlefield operations.
The 84th Regiment was established in January 1759 specifically for service in India, where British and French forces were competing for military and political influence during the Third Carnatic War.
The regiment served under Sir Eyre Coote, whose army defeated the French forces commanded by the Comte de Lally at Wandewash.
This drummer figure provides another element of the regiment's organisation and complements the Officer (WB84-01) and Standard Bearer (WB84-02).
Displayed together, these figures can form part of a regimental command group, while additional line infantry figures allow collectors to assemble a larger representation of the British forces involved in the campaign.
