WB84-05 - 84th (Coote's) Regiment of Foot, Line Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

WB84-05 represents a British line infantryman of the 84th (Coote's) Regiment of Foot during the Battle of Wandewash, fought on 22 January 1760.

The 84th Regiment was raised in January 1759 specifically for service in India, where British forces were engaged in a series of campaigns against the French during the Third Carnatic War.

The Battle of Wandewash brought together British troops commanded by Sir Eyre Coote and French forces led by the Comte de Lally. The British victory was a significant turning point in the struggle for control of southern India.

British regular regiments serving in India were frequently divided into smaller detachments rather than operating exclusively as complete battalions, reflecting the demands of military service across the region.

This line infantry release allows collectors to develop the ordinary soldier component of the 84th Regiment.

It can be combined with WB84-06, WB84-07 and WB84-08, together with the officer, standard bearer and drummer, to create a more extensive British regimental display.
