WBS-02N - Four British Sepoys | John Jenkins Designs
WBS-02N represents four Indian Sepoys serving with British forces during the Battle of Wandewash on 22 January 1760.
During the eighteenth century, the British East India Company increasingly recruited Indian soldiers to support its military operations and protect its commercial interests in India.
Earlier locally recruited troops were often organised and equipped under their own leaders. By the middle of the eighteenth century, the East India Company had begun training and equipping its Indian soldiers according to European military practices.
These troops became known as Sepoys and played an important role in the development of the Company's military forces.
By 1759, the Madras Sepoys had adopted red uniforms, reflecting the growing influence of British military organisation and equipment.
This four-figure set represents the Indian soldiers who served alongside British regular troops during the Third Carnatic War.
The figures can be combined with other Sepoy releases and the 79th and 84th Regiments of Foot to create a more extensive representation of the British army at Wandewash.
Set includes: 4 British Sepoy figures.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
