WFCIP-01N - Six French Cipayes | John Jenkins Designs

WFCIP-01N represents six French Cipayes serving with the French forces during the Battle of Wandewash on 22 January 1760.

The Cipayes were locally recruited Indian soldiers who served alongside European troops during the French military campaigns in southern India.

Unlike the regular French infantry, these soldiers initially retained traditional Indian clothing rather than adopting European-style uniforms.

The figures are represented wearing distinctive muslin headdresses with wide, flat tops, together with long garments gathered around the hips. Their appearance reflects the clothing associated with French Cipaye units during this period.

At Wandewash, approximately 900 Cipayes were positioned behind the main French line, with an additional 300 assigned to guard the camp. The troops positioned behind the line did not become directly engaged in the battle.

This six-figure set provides collectors with an opportunity to assemble a larger contingent of French-allied Indian soldiers.

WFCIP-01N can be displayed with the smaller WFCIP-01 release and figures from Lally's Irish Regiment, helping to represent the different elements of the French Army during the Third Carnatic War.

Set includes: 6 French Cipaye figures.
