WFLAL-03 - Drummer, Lally's (Irish) Regiment | John Jenkins Designs
WFLAL-03 portrays a drummer serving with Lally's Irish Regiment in the French Army during the Seven Years War.
The regiment was commanded by Thomas Arthur, Comte de Lally-Tollendal, and participated in the French campaigns against British forces in southern India during the Third Carnatic War.
The second battalion arrived in India in April 1758 and fought during the Siege of Fort St. David before taking part in the unsuccessful French attempt to capture Madras.
Military drummers performed an important function within eighteenth-century infantry regiments, communicating orders through drum signals and helping regulate marching movements and military routines.
This drummer figure represents an additional element of Lally's Regiment beyond the ordinary infantry soldiers.
It pairs with the Officer (WFLAL-01) and Standard Bearer (WFLAL-02), allowing collectors to assemble a regimental command and musical group.
The figure can be positioned alongside the infantry releases from Lally's Regiment to create a more complete representation of the French forces at Wandewash.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
