WFLAL-06 - Lally's (Irish) Regiment, French Line Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

WFLAL-06 represents soldiers of Lally's Irish Regiment during the French campaigns in India and the Battle of Wandewash on 22 January 1760.

The regiment was commanded by Thomas Arthur, Comte de Lally-Tollendal, and formed part of the French Army during the Seven Years War.

Its second battalion arrived in India in April 1758, participating in the capture of Fort St. David and later in the unsuccessful Siege of Madras.

During 1759, the regiment experienced serious difficulties, including a shortage of pay that contributed to a mutiny among troops stationed at Chittapett. Although the officers succeeded in persuading most of the soldiers to return to duty, a group of men defected to the British.

Despite these difficulties, the battalion continued to serve and fought at the Battle of Wandewash in January 1760.

WFLAL-06 provides collectors with another infantry release representing this historic French regiment.

It can be combined with WFLAL-05, WFLAL-07 and WFLAL-08, together with the larger infantry sets, to develop a substantial French formation.
