WFLAL-07 - Lally's (Irish) Regiment, French Line Infantry | John Jenkins Designs
WFLAL-07 depicts infantry serving with Lally's Irish Regiment in the French Army during the Battle of Wandewash on 22 January 1760.
Commanded by Thomas Arthur, Comte de Lally-Tollendal, the regiment was among the French forces engaged in the Third Carnatic War in southern India.
Following its arrival in April 1758, the regiment's second battalion took part in operations against Fort St. David and the unsuccessful Siege of Madras before participating in the French campaigns of 1759.
At Wandewash, French forces confronted the British army under Sir Eyre Coote. The resulting British victory weakened the French military position in India.
After the defeat, Lally's Regiment continued to participate in the defence of Pondicherry, where the French forces ultimately surrendered in January 1761.
This infantry release allows collectors to expand their representation of Lally's Irish Regiment during this important period.
WFLAL-07 complements the other infantry figures from the series and can be combined with the larger WFLAL-07N set to build a more substantial formation.
It also pairs with the regiment's command figures and other French Army releases for displays of the Battle of Wandewash.
