The local grocer was an important part of everyday Victorian neighbourhood life, supplying households with many of the basic foods and provisions required for daily living.

WOD012 – George the Grocer celebrates this ordinary but essential part of the Victorian streetscape. Rather than depicting a famous historical or literary personality, George helps create the impression of a working community filled with tradespeople and shopkeepers.

He is perfectly at home outside a shopfront, speaking with customers or surrounded by other market and street figures.
