The elder brother of Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes is one of the more intriguing characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Possessing powers of observation and deduction that Sherlock himself greatly respected, Mycroft nevertheless lacked his younger brother's enthusiasm for physically investigating cases.

His mysterious position within the British government only added to the fascination surrounding the character, with Sherlock describing his influence as extending far beyond any conventional official title.
