Patrols were sent forward to discover what lay beyond friendly positions – but reconnaissance could quickly become combat when enemy troops were unexpectedly encountered.

WS058 – Fighting Patrol captures that transition, portraying German soldiers engaged during a patrol rather than fighting from a prepared position.

The set lends itself particularly well to woodland, village or roadside scenes where the opposing forces have suddenly come into contact at relatively close range.
