WSP-124 – Whiskey Traders

The frontier trade in whiskey became a controversial part of the history of the northern Great Plains. During the 19th century, traders carried alcohol and other manufactured goods into remote regions, exchanging them for buffalo robes, furs and other valuable commodities.

WSP-124 – Whiskey Traders represents the men involved in this rough-and-ready frontier commerce. Their activities were one of the factors behind growing concerns about lawlessness in the Canadian West and the eventual establishment of the North-West Mounted Police in 1873.

This set fits naturally alongside traders, Native American figures, wagons and trading-post accessories, helping tell one of the more complicated stories of frontier expansion.

Available from The Military Workshop – a fascinating John Jenkins set depicting the trading world that helped inspire the Whiskey, Scalps & Beaver Pelts collection.
