WSP-133 – African American Miner | John Jenkins Designs
The search for gold and other valuable minerals drew people from remarkably diverse backgrounds into the mining districts of the American West. Among them were African American miners, whose contribution forms part of the broader and often overlooked story of Black life on the western frontier.
WSP-133 – African American Miner represents one of these hardworking individuals, capturing a side of Western history far removed from cavalry charges and famous gunfighters. Mining could be exhausting and dangerous work, with long days spent digging, hauling and processing material in the hope of finding a profitable claim.
The figure is especially useful for adding greater depth to a mining camp or frontier settlement. Positioned near a mine entrance, tools, timber, wagons or other prospectors, he helps create the impression of a community built around the relentless work of extracting minerals from the surrounding country.
WSP-133 also complements the many traders, mountain men, policemen and civilians in the John Jenkins WSP range, helping show just how varied the population of the Western frontier could be.
Available from The Military Workshop – a distinctive John Jenkins Designs character representing another fascinating aspect of working life in the American West.
