WSP-81 – Superintendent (Major) James Morrow Walsh

James Morrow Walsh was one of the notable officers of the early North-West Mounted Police, the force established in 1873 to extend Canadian law and authority across the vast western territories.

Walsh became particularly well known through his association with Sitting Bull and the Lakota, who crossed into Canada following the Battle of the Little Bighorn. As commander of Fort Walsh, he developed a relationship with Sitting Bull while attempting to maintain peace and Canadian authority during a politically sensitive period.

WSP-81 – Superintendent (Major) James Morrow Walsh therefore makes an especially interesting companion to WSP-90 Sitting Bull, allowing collectors to represent two important historical personalities whose stories became closely connected on the Canadian frontier.
