Few fighter aircraft of the Second World War are as instantly recognisable as the shark-mouthed Curtiss P-40 of the legendary Flying Tigers.

Officially known as the American Volunteer Group (AVG), the Flying Tigers were American volunteer pilots who fought Japanese forces over China and Burma during the opening stages of the Pacific War. Under the leadership of Claire Lee Chennault, their distinctive P-40s became one of the most famous symbols of Allied aviation in the Far East.
