HITT-08AN – Eight Hittite Spearmen – Battle of Kadesh, 1274 BC
A Bronze Age army becomes considerably more impressive once its infantry begins to appear in massed ranks rather than isolated pairs.
HITT-08AN provides eight Hittite spearmen, allowing collectors to establish an immediate body of infantry for the Battle of Kadesh.
The Hittite Empire was one of the major powers of the Late Bronze Age, centred in Anatolia but exercising influence well beyond its heartland. Its rivalry with Egypt over the cities and territories of Syria brought the two powers into direct confrontation under Muwatalli II and Ramesses II.
Although chariots receive much of the attention in accounts of Kadesh, infantry remained indispensable. Once mobile forces had passed through an area, foot soldiers were needed to hold ground, reinforce positions and provide the numerical depth of the army.
Eight figures can be arranged in a compact formation or spread across several ranks. Combined with the B variations and other Hittite spearmen, collectors can create a sizeable force behind the chariot arm.
