TRW198 – Corporal Crouching Loading Carbine | King & Country

During the American frontier campaigns of the late 19th century, the United States Cavalry relied heavily upon mounted mobility, disciplined formations and the effectiveness of its small arms.

One of the best-known weapons associated with the American cavalryman was the Springfield Model 1873 Carbine, a single-shot, breech-loading firearm widely issued to mounted troops during the 1870s.

Unlike repeating rifles, the Springfield required the soldier to reload after each shot. During an engagement, soldiers had to maintain their composure while preparing their weapons for the next round.

The cavalry campaigns of this period frequently involved fighting across open plains, rocky hillsides and rugged terrain, where soldiers might be forced to dismount and defend their positions on foot.

TRW198 – Corporal Crouching Loading Carbine by King & Country depicts a U.S. Cavalry corporal crouching low while reloading his Springfield carbine, preparing to return to the fighting.

Wearing the distinctive blue cavalry uniform, yellow neckerchief and broad-brimmed hat, the soldier is captured in a dynamic pose that conveys the urgency of a battlefield engagement.

The figure also features a leather carbine sling, an important piece of equipment that allowed mounted soldiers to secure their weapons while riding.

Part of the King & Country The Real West – John Ford's Cavalry range, this miniature complements other firing, kneeling and defending cavalry figures, allowing collectors to create a realistic frontier battle scene.
