ALB-05G – French Lancer | John Jenkins Designs
Few moments at the Battle of Albuera were as terrifying for the British infantry as the sudden appearance of Polish lancers emerging through sheets of rain and hail.
ALB-05G – French Lancer represents a cavalryman of the 1st Vistula Legion Lancers, Polish troops fighting in French service during Napoleon’s campaigns.
Colborne’s brigade had been engaged in the battle when the storm struck, obscuring visibility and making the exposed priming pans of flintlock muskets vulnerable to the rain. Before the infantry could form the squares normally used to meet cavalry, the lancers and accompanying French hussars crashed into their flank.
The lancer’s long weapon gave considerable reach against infantrymen trying to defend themselves with bayonets, and the confused fighting that followed became one of the defining episodes of Albuera.
As a mounted piece, ALB-05G adds immediate movement and drama to a display and pairs naturally with the Buffs, additional lancers and the 2nd Hussars.
Now available from The Military Workshop – an action-filled John Jenkins Designs lancer capturing the ferocity of the cavalry attack at Albuera.
