SW032 – "Ashigaru Taiko Drum Set" (Eastern Army)
During Japan's Sengoku Period, battlefield communication was every bit as important as courage and skill with the sword. Vast armies manoeuvring across valleys and hillsides relied upon a carefully organised system of drums, conch shells, banners and signal flags to relay commands across the battlefield.
The powerful sound of the Taiko drum carried over great distances, signalling advances, withdrawals, changes in formation and coordinated attacks. Every soldier understood the rhythm and meaning of these signals, allowing commanders to control thousands of warriors during the chaos of battle.
King & Country's SW032 "Ashigaru Taiko Drum Set" depicts the Ashigaru musicians responsible for transmitting these vital battlefield commands to the soldiers of Tokugawa Ieyasu's Eastern Army.
Available to purchase through The Military Workshop website, SW032 is an outstanding display set that adds movement, atmosphere and historical authenticity to any Samurai battlefield.
